Title

HURRICANE PROTECTION AT THE MCRA OWNED SHOPPING PLAZAS

Body

BACKGROUND:                      Under Public Discussion at the MCRA meeting on September 9, 2021, a tenant of the Ace Plaza addressed the Board about the need for hurricane protection for the storefronts.  As a follow-up to that discussion, property manager Jim Nardi, obtained estimates for two options for hurricane protection:

1.                     Upgrading to impact storefronts and rear door replacements

2.                     Installing manual accordion shutter system and rear door replacements

RECOMMENDATION:                     For Board discussion and direction

FISCAL IMPACT:  OPTION 1:  Impact storefronts & rear door replacements:  Chevy Chase = $455,000; Ace Plaza = $633,000 (Total $1,088,000)

OPTION 2:   Manual accordion shutter system and rear door replacements:  Chevy Chase = $188,000; Ace Plaza = $218,000 (Total $406,000)
