UPDATE FROM GAI CONSULTANTS INC. REGARDING THE MARGATE COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY EXTENSION DISCUSSIONS WITH BROWARD COUNTY
BACKGROUND: In February 2023, the Margate Community Redevelopment Agency awarded RFP No. 2023-01 to GAI Consultants, Inc. for consulting services for the MCRA Redevelopment Plan Update and assisting with feasible options for extending the existing sunset date.
The MCRA is scheduled to sunset on August 13, 2026. At the City Commission meeting on October 18, 2023, Resolution 23-087 passed authorizing Mayor Caggiano to send a letter to the Broward County Board of Commissioners requesting an extension of the MCRA’s sunset date to the end of the FY46-47 (see attached). A response was received from the County Administrator on November 7, 2023, that has prompted further discussion (see attached).
John Jones, Planning Manager, and Tom Kohler, Senior Director, both from GAI Consultants, Inc., will be joining the meeting via Zoom to provide an update and presentation on the ongoing discussions with Broward County about funding and attainable housing.
