APPROVING CHANGE ORDER NO. 2 TO THE CONSTRUCTION AGREEMENT WITH MBR CONSTRUCTION, INC., FOR THE SERINO PARK RENOVATIONS PROJECT IN THE AMOUNT OF $59,523.75 FOR A PARK IDENTITY SIGN AND INCREASING THE PROJECT COMPLETION CONTRACT TIME BY 60 DAYS

BACKGROUND: On October 13, 2021 the MCRA Board approved the award of a Design/Build contract to MBR Construction, Inc. as a piggyback of Broward County Purchasing Contract (Parks Improvements and Construction) in the amount of $1,265,000 for design and construction of Serino Park renovations. Subsequently, on January 12, 2022 the MCRA Board approved Change Order No. 1 in the amount of $662,792 to expand the scope of work to provide for some additional items and upgraded amenities.
Project construction is more than 65% complete. An additional 60 days for project completion is also requested in this Change Order No. 2, due to the fact that the sign will take 45-60 days to fabricate. If approved, the new contract completion date will be September 17, 2023. It should be noted that the extended completion date pertains only to the sign as the remainder of the project remains on track to be finished in advance of the current contract completion date of July 19, 2023.
This proposed change order is a result of the MCRA's request to add a Park Identity Sign essentially identical to the sign installed at the entry to the Sports Complex. There are three components to this work: (i) the fabrication and installation of the sign by Ferrin Signs (as subcontractor to MBR); (ii) the earthwork, grading and pouring of the sign's concrete foundation by MBR; and, (iii) the trenching, conduit and electrical wiring for the sign lighting, also by MBR. Ferrin Signs' design drawing is included in the attachments.
