Title

DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION - FIRE STATION 58 UPDATE (Presented by Architect Saltz Michelson)

Body

BACKGROUND:                     Saltz Michelson, the City’s hired architect for this project, has provided a historical timeline and an updated Opinion of Probable Cost for the conceptual two-story, three-bay fire station. The updated estimates are as follows:

Construction-                                          $7,140,000 (16,800 SF @ $425/SF)

Design-                                                               $533,697 (includes $35,000 credit against prior work)

Interior Furnish-                     $714,000 (estimated 10% of construction)

Total Estimate-                                          $8,387,697

The FY 2019 Budget includes funding of $5,200,000 of which $1,000,000 is a grant from the State of Florida. Thus, there is a shortfall of $3,187,697 based on the current total cost estimate. Options for closing this gap are:

Citizens Project Initiatives Fund:                     Estimated balance- $1,000,000

Fire Assessment Increase:                                          $50 increase would generate approximately $1.44 million

Ad Valorem Increase:                                          0.25 Mills would generate approximately $740,000

RECOMMENDATION:                     Discuss and possible action

FISCAL IMPACT:                     $8,387,697
